From the City of Burlington / Burlington City Arts:
Burlington City Arts, in partnership with the Department of Public Works, is excited to announce that Dance in Place, a new sculpture by Burlington-based Studio Projects, LLC led by artist Christopher Kojzar, has been installed downtown!
On Thursday, October 2, at 11 am, Burlington City Arts, the Burlington Department of Public Works & Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak will celebrate Dance in Place, a new public artwork by Christopher Kojzar. Dance in Place, a vibrant sculpture that honors queer delight and Black joy in public space, has been installed at the corner of St Paul and Bank Street in front of the new Burlington Square development and was produced as part of Burlington's Great Streets Initiative.
Speakers include:
- Emma Mulvaney-Stanak, Burlington Mayor
- Doreen Kraft, Executive Director, Burlington City Arts
- Christopher Kojzar, Artist
Dance in Place is a vibrant celebration of queer delight and Black joy in public space. Drawing inspiration from the Vermont Queer Archives and created in collaboration with community participation from the Education Justice Coalition, Burlington City & Lake Semester Program, and the Clemmons Family Farm, the sculpture brings motion, color, and meaning to our downtown streetscape. Fabricated from laser-cut aluminum, it features seven multi-colored body forms that reflect Burlington’s diversity, creativity, and inclusivity.
We hope you’ll join the artist, local leaders, and community members as we celebrate this exciting new addition to Burlington’s cultural landscape.
